Note Card Confession
For this project, I made note card confession video about my grandfather's childhood. My process was first re-reading my grandpa's biography he wrote. I picked the piece that seemed the most emotional to me and it also related to education. After watching the video one will may notice how important education was to my grandpa. He loved school and learning new things as a child so it was heart breaking that his schooling came to an end to soon based on a decision outside of his control. After gaining this inspiration, I wrote out on a piece of paper what I wanted each card to say. I wanted to make sure none of my cards would have too many words and I tried to tell the story in the most exciting and emotional way possible. Then I wrote the cards and filmed the video on my iPad. I used the front camera so I could make sure my cards were in the frame.
I picked this topic because my grandpa is a hero to me because he overcame the struggles of growing up during the Great Depression on a Kansas farm and made a great life for himself. I could use this in my classroom because I want my students to be reflective on their family's history as well as their heros. I think doing a project like this note card confession on student's hero would be neat. As a future social studies teacher this could also be used to tell stories of historical figures. I think doing a note card confession after reading Frederick Douglass' autobiography would be very interesting and help students practice a start thinking as they put themselves in a slave's shoes.
